Visionary Rituals Artist's Statement – View Series Here

While working on this series of images I became technically entranced in a laborious process of creating poetic imagery to suffice my personal need to analyze human perception. During this time, my work moved further from reality and progressed into the dream-like state found within each image.

Dreams are made from the impressions left within our minds on a daily basis. The fuzziness of these visions characterize our interpretations of the ideas which exist to us as individuals. Each image becomes a metaphor for human perception while also examining issues of space and simplicity throughout the series.

In creating this body of work, the images began to match the process as both are intensely ritualistic in nature. Moving closer to my goal of defining the differences that exist in human perception, I began to literally veil images to remove unnecessary information. The images now demand further human examination, thus enhancing the personal reading of the viewer.

Throughout this series I employed several different traditional and digital techniques to create the concise images that remain. After crossing back and forth between methods on many of the images, the final prints were created digitally on archival matte medium.

Prior to this series I had spent several years trying to uncover and understand the complexities of human perception. After many attempts I was unsuccessful in visually recreating the realities of my own mind while still noting the differences in the minds of others.

By combining a ceremonial process of creating imagery with a parallel means of defining content, I identified the solutions that had eluded me for so long. The visionary rituals that exist within my imagery outline the creation of human perception.
